Planting & Care
Planting Instructions: It’s drought tolerant, resistant to disease and pests, and pollution, but it’s important to keep a few things in mind when you’re planting your Fern Pine Tree.
When it’s time to plant, choose an area with at least 4 to 8 hours of sunlight per day and well-drained soil, whether you’re planting in a container or in the ground. After selecting your location, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your Fern Pine’s root ball. Once you’ve placed it, back fill the soil, tamp down the soil to avoid air pockets, and water to help establish its roots.
Watering: Though it’s drought tolerant, regular waterings are important (one or two thorough waterings is advised weekly). If you’re not sure when to water your tree, simply check the surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If its soil is dry at this point, it’s time to water.
Fertilizing: Spring is the ideal time to feed your Fern Pine Tree. We recommend using an all-purpose, slow-release fertilizer. Re-apply the same fertilizer during summer for best results.
Pruning: If you’re creating hedging rather than planting your Fern Pine as a tree, simply prune to your desired shape and height.
