Planting & Care

Planting Instructions: Without pruning, the Canary Island Pine Tree is a sizable specimen, so it’s important to find a location that accommodates its size. And your tree should be planted in a sunny spot (6 to 8 hours of sun per day) with well-drained soil.

After you’ve selected your location, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your tree’s root ball. Once you’ve placed the Canary Island, back fill its soil, tamp down to avoid air pockets and lastly, water to help establish its roots.

Pruning: Pruning for your Canary Island is only necessary to maintain size or raise the canopy base’s height for your landscape.

Watering: The Canary Island Pine Tree is low-maintenance, but an adequate watering schedule is important. Water your tree regularly (approximately one thorough watering each week) to maintain soil moisture.

If you’re not sure when to water, or how much to water, simply check the Canary’s surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If you feel dry soil, it’s time to water to moistness but not oversaturation.
